Our Vision
Kapable strives to advance equity for individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) in the DMV area, ensuring everyone has the support they need to thrive. We want to contribute to an ideal society where disability has no bearing on a person's ability to access and participate in the full spectrum of the human experience.
Our Mission
Our mission is to increase necessary access to valuable resources. In partnership with individuals who have developmental disabilities, Kapable provides tailored resources and programming, aimed at unlocking their potential and showcasing their valuable abilities to the world. Through our range of services, including a robust resource library, community events, and partnerships, we aim to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.
Our Story
When I was told that I would give birth to an amazing baby girl with Down Syndrome, I knew it would take a lot of love, joy, and hard work to raise a strong and secure child. I sat up at night thinking about who she'd be and if she'd be happy. I never really thought about if she'd be able to get the things she needed most. It never occurred to me that the resources I needed to give her the best chance would be out of reach, but they were. Unfortunately they are for a lot of families in Washington DC.
Kapable endeavors to bridge the gap between those with family members with Special Needs and the services they have a right to for their best chance by meeting families where they are. we act as a broker of valuable information necessary to ensure that a person's disability doesn't become a bigger barrier than necessary in their pursuit to simply exist.
